Originally called the Monsters of Folk as a joke, the name kind of stuck as this supergroup (Jim James, Conor Oberst, M. Ward & Mike Mogis), who started writing songs while touring with their own bands, began to tour together. They finally cut the debut record this year and it’s a folk tour-de-force, peppered with the styles and influences of each artist.
