The Ones That Got Away
HotSpotMusic started with the simple premise that there’s so much music being put out there in this modern-digital-mp3blogs-usbtoasters-streaming age that there needs to be a guide and a filter. A guide to find out what’s new and a filter to define what’s good. But not just to single tracks and buzzworthy bands but to albums:(usually) the best representation of an artists work and, in this writer’s humble opinion, the only way to listen to music properly.
However, facing a tsunami of releases, to do justice to each artist by actually listening to a full album and writing more than a few pithy words can sometimes be tough. So, in the spirit of the New Year, it’s time to face the facts and turn over a new leaf. In 2011, HotSpotMusic will be starting with an (almost) blank slate (admittedly we’ve held a couple of good ones back for when the 2011 releases dry up).
Here’s a playlist of all the records we never got round to, some from 2010, some from before, some good, some not-so-good (but given that they didn’t make instant review status you can draw your own conclusions). If you find some great ones in there that we didn’t get the time they deserved, let us know!
