Out of the mire of Kevin Barnes’ personal depression, Hissing Fauna came truly out of leftfield. He used to write quirky songs about strange characters and those odd little moments in life. But this album diverges both lyrically, to a more sombre personal place, and musically, which is some of the most funky, uplifting tunes in Of Montreal’s catalogue.
