Bill Callahan’s brooding voice has such gravitas and effect that he could be singing the theme tune to Spongebob Squarepants and it would still sound like an emotionally wrought, dark and profound song. On Sometimes I Wish We Were An Eagle, he continues his move away from the lo-fi ethos of Smog and seems to add an entire orchestra to some tracks. The result is a grand and intense piece of personal art that hits you in the face and then drags you in for more.
